    the furrows are ploughed; after this they are broken by drawing a heavy stone on them so as to make the clay fine
    The fine soil is then put up on the ridges.
    Then the stalks appear over the clay then the furrows are dug again and the soil put up on the ridges this is called moulding.
    Before the first soil is put on for setting artifical or farmyard manure is put on or both sometimes are put on the ridges.
    About the middle of June the potatoes are sprayed for the first time.
    Eight pounds of bluestone is disolved in a barrel of cold water.
    Ten pounds of washing soda is disolved in boiling water and added to this.
