Local Marriage Customs
Marriages most frequently occur during Shrove.
May is considered an unlucky month for getting married.
Saturday is considered an unlucky day for getting married.
Matches are still made in the district. Money is usually given as a dowry, the amount depending on the means of the Groom. Stock and Goods are rarely given, sometimes portion of the farm is given.
People remember marriages taking place in the house.
A married woman was supposed to accompany the Bride to the Church in order to have luck. The Bride was supposed to wear something borrowed, something blue, something old & something new.
