  1. Old Schools
    1. There was an old school in Abbey about 14 years ago. It is a dwelling house now, for a family named Lynch. There were teachers teaching in that school. The name of those teachers were Mr Whelan, and Miss Donnelly.
    2. There was a school before that on the road going into abbertons house. The remains of that school is there all the time.
    3. The school before that was between (old) Tom Burkes, and (young) Tom Burke's house. There is no sign of that school now in the village of Ballygowan.
    4. The school before was in the monastery about 600 years ago. The monks were teaching in the monastery themselves. you could see this monastery up to the present day.
    5. St Feichin had a school in Lackin about 1,400 years ago. Long ago before the monastery was established in abbey St Feichin taught in that school himself.
