  1. If a man vexed a smith he could draw the anvil on him and make him into any shape he wished. The water the smith would cool a hot iron in is a cure for a sore finger. If a person thought their butter was getting stolen and to to the black-smith he would give them a curse for it. He would tell them to get a piece of iron and put it in the fire, and leave it there until it is very hot, then take it out and start the churning and if anyone came to the door not to let them in, and the butter would not be stolen anymore.
