On another occasion a neighbouring woman spent a night in the same house. She told me that on awaking some time during the night she could distinctly see the pictures on the walls around her. Outside in the kitchen there was a crackling as of meat frying on a pan. She was frightened and awoke the other occupant of the room - a niece of the woman of the house. For her pain she was told to go to sleep and take no worries, as this was a common occurrence. The 'good people' were having a meal for themselves and were not to be disturbed!
The practice of putting eggs on the tillage of a neighbour existed here up to about thirty years ago. By so doing it was believed that the crop so treated would be transferred from the owner and received by whoever 'planted' the eggs. A neighboring farmer told me that he once saw a women acting in a suspicious manner in his potato-garden. He noticed that she went first to one corner and then to another. When she had gone he went to investigate and on examination found eggs buried in each corner. It was only then it dawned upon him what she was doing. Several others have told me of how they found eggs, carcasses of animals, etc buried on their lands - the object being as stated above.
