The old people thought that fairies lived in these forts long ago. The fairies had holes in these forts, and had great treasures in them. Many stories are told about them and how they guarded their gold. They gave gold to anybody who did them a good turn.
The fairies who lived in these forts used to visit the people round about them especially when a child was born and put one of their own in its place. The child left by the fairies was always crying, and that was how the people found out about it.
There is a big tree in the fort in Dernakesh and it is supposed to be very unlucky for anyone to cut it or ever go near it at night. A pot of gold is buried under it, and bad luck comes to anyone who tries to harm it.
