The oldest inhabitant of this district is Ned McCormick of Tandragee, Clones. His mother is supposed to have encountered a fairy one day. She resided convenient to Glear fort and one day as she was sitting by the fireside, putting turf on the fire she heard someone coming in. Then she saw a small man with a red coat, a tall hat which ran to a point and long shoes. She caught him at once and said, "Tell me where there is a crock of gold". The little man said, "Let me out and I will tell you". She let him go and then he said, "Throw no more water out in front of the house for every drop you throw out is running down our dresser." He then walked away. She went after him but he had disappeared from view.
