  1. Long ago there was a lot of superstition attached to butter-making. A woman used take a different form to her own and go to a neighbour's herd of cows and milk a little from each cow and while she milked she pronounced some words. Next day when she churned she had her neighbour's butter with her own and while making the churn she put red cinders under the churn and put a shovel behind the door in order that the butter would be safe.
