Obtained from Joe Stephens, Lisnageer, Cootehill, Farmer, aged 70 years. Lived all his life in this locality. Heard the story from his father Joe Stephens, of Lisnageer, Cootehill - 87 years of age, died 17 years ago.About 90 (ninety) years ago my father who was then unmarried, had a housekeeper named Sally Greenan. He had two cows in a field in a field in Drumshiel. One morning when the cows were milked they gave very little. Sally Greenan returned home with the almost empty cans and placing them on the table, made a kick at a black greyhound which my father then owned; saying at the same time that if her (greyhound) had been there he would have caught the hare which took the milk from the cows. My father talked the matter over with a woman who lived near the place where the cows were grazing named Betty Brady. She made a thread for him and told him to put it three times round the cows' necks before the sun would set.
