  1. The way to make sowan's is when you get oatmeal made in the mill the refuse which remains after the meal is taken out of the oats is called toppings. Take the topping's and get a crock or tub and put one stone of the topping's into the crock or tub and fill it with water and stir frequently and leave it steeping for 3 or 4 day's till it sour's. Then the people take it as they want it and strain it and this was called sowan's. They take this sowans with their porridge and also with potatoes and also for drink's.
