Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There are two old lime kilns in Brankhill lane, and one in John Scotts field in the townland of Tycusker.
    All these are owned by John Scott my Uncle but are not used now.
    They are about five feet high and about seven feet round.
    Each is a round shape and is built of stones.
    Underneath the kiln is a little opening for the lime to come out.
    This is how the lime is burned.
    First there is a layer of sticks put in on top of it turf are out then a layer of lime stone. These layers are continued one after another until the kiln is full.
    All this is covered with clay and then a fire is put underneath.
    It takes the lime about a week to burn when it is burned it is fit for use.
    It is used to make white wash to whiten houses and it is also used to spread on the land to improve it.
