    man named Scales found the body when he was driving his cows to drink. He informed the police and his son came and identified the body of his late father. He was a nice quiet man everybody was sorry after him.
    Martha Lunney aged 21 yrs of Gortonal was murdered on the night of Holy Thursday 1923 a.d.
    She was but one hundred yards from her home when she was attacked. In the struggle her murderer put his hand over the face and left the impression of his five fingers on it. He also pushed out her eyes and broke her teeth. Her body was dragged from the road through fields and left on the bank of a river where it was discovered next day. It was said that it was the most brutal murder was committed. Although great pains were taken to discover the murderer he was never found.
    Thos. McGovern of Tiercahan was murdered on St. Patricks night 1909 a.d. He was returning home with a few of his neighbours and they had some drink taken. It was supposed that they had an argument with the result that one of his companions stabbed him with his knife and he died about a week later.
