- We have a churn at home. It is four feet in height and the sides are round. It is five years old. There are no marks on side or bottom. We churn three times a week in summer and once a week in winter. It takes longer to churn in the winter than in the summer. My sister always does the churning. There is a little bit of glass in the lid of the churn and when it is clear the butter is made. Hot water is generally poured into the churn to rise the temperature and this helps to shorten the churning. There are no local sayings, proverbs or sayings connected with churning or butter-making.
