- We have a churn at home. It is an end over end churn and is about 2½ feet high. We have it about seven years. Some of the parts of it are the lid, the handle, and the stand. We churn twice a week in summer and once a week in winter. The churning takes about an hour each time. The churning is done by hand. I don't know any old sayings or proverbs connected with churning. The buttermilk is used to feed calves and make bread. There is a small round piece of glass in the lid and when it is clear the churning is done.
