When all business had ceased the people retired to a house there and danced for the most part of the night.
In later years it ceased and now it is not continued. When animals are sold there is luck given to the seller.
The Fair Green of Dunlavin was once the scene of shooting. Thirty six men were shot in the troubled times. Cattle and pig fairs were carried on but mostly pig fairs.
Sheep are marked when sold by the initials on the back by raddle. Horses as a rule when sold the halter is given away. When the parties are making a bargain and when they have agreed they show their agreement by hand-shaking.
The fairs of the present day are remnants of the fairs at Tara. A large congregation is gathered and therefore one can hear bargains being made.
