  1. The wild that are usually seen in our district are the robin, the wren, the thrush, the blackbird and others. The robin is the best liked bird in our district. She comes to our doors to look for crumbs.
The swallow builds its nest in the roofs of cow houses. It is said that if anyone knocks or touches its nest or kills any of the young swallows, the cows will all give bloody milk.
When swallows fly high in the air it betokens fine weather and when they fly low it fortells rain. Peacocks are heard crying when rain is near. When a flock of curlews are seen going upwards the rain is coming.
There is a story told about how the robin got his red breast. When Christ was dying on the cross, there was a little robin near and it flew up to him. A drop of blood fell on his breast, and every robin since has a red breast.
