- Candle - making:
My granny can make rush candles. She peels the rushes and then dips them in a vessel like a little boat which is full of grease.
Gates;
Iron Gates are made by Tim Egan, blacksmith, Ferbane. Wooden gates are made by Pat Egan, a carpenter, Ferbane.
Bill Egan, Belmont, a blacksmith, makes fire - cranes.
Drinks:
Bees' wine is made in this district. It is very difficult to get the barm to make it. You put the barm in a jam pot, then fill the jar with water, then leave it for a fortnight. Every day put two spoonfuls, of sugar and every nine days a spoonful of treacle. Then after the fortnight, strain the barm out of the liquid which is the colour of wine and drink the liquid.- Bailitheoir
