- The storm which is known as the "Big Wind" began on Jan 6th 1839. The wind first in the evening blew from the South East when suddenly it changed to the South West and blew there for a few hours.When people got up in the morning they discovered that all their hay and corn tossed about and roofs blown off their houses. It is believed that this wind did great harm to the ships that were on sea and the sails of a ship were blown to Clononey Castle. This sail was found by Grandfather John Reddin.
