   These were the days, the grand old days
   When those pious men
   Sung to God the daily praise
   They knew not what was sin.

   Now,they are gone but still stand there
   The chapel on the hill
   While all around seemed fresh and fair
   The monks be slumbering still

   I think i hear the treat of feet,
   The sound of bell and prayer
   The grandest spot in all the earth
   Blest Carrick in Kildare

   O Carrick dear I love you still,
   Historic to the core
   Where writes, they might have their fill
   Of History go leor.
