As the work in this and other industries were very slow many hands were employed and on that account the district was thickly populated. Old people pointed out to me many places on all the roads to Ballycanew where groups and rows of small houses stood. Today there is no trace of them except a mound here and there for they were built without exception of mud for the walls and thatch for the roofs.The establishment of the local creameries and the adoption of modern machinery and up to date method has for all practical purposes killed butter-making in the farmers houses
