    patience was the following incident:
Ath this time the people were asked to bring in their arms and give them up to the authorities and in return they could live in their houses in peace. This order was issued at intervals in different localities and many people brought in pikes but not place much faith in the promise and it was said that anyone who brought in a pike had another one at home. This order was issued at Crnew in the Co. Wicklow on the borders of Co Wexford but the people believed that there was some treachery intended. However thirty six people brought in arms. They were immediately tied in groups and shot. A wave of horror spread through the county Wexford and Father John Murphy said that it was better to die fighting than be murdered like dogs.
