James Quinn was aroused in the early night by what he believed to be all the cattle - bellowing and roaring around the lodge. When he went out he saw no cattle at all - after some time he found the herd half a mile from the house lying peacefully, chewing their cud.
The following Sunday, Mr and Mrs Montague (following their usual practice) went accompanied by some friends to Lough Glore to fish.
On their return journey they were involved in a motor accident from which they barely escaped with their lives.
The next morning all the workmen were ordered to replace the monument in its original place with the least [?] day. This was carried out as ordered and there the monument stands to the present day.
