    On top of that they put a "sgraw". Then they began to thatch. The first of the thatch had to be sewn on with a thatchers kneedle and a hay rope. It was ran across the fire to burn off the straw. The windows were small with iron bars to prevent robbers from getting in to rade the house. The floor was of clay. Half doors were on almost every house. The light was very bad a hob-lamp in the corner.
