The seats were black oak beams laid on big stones around the walls and hewn flat by a broad-axe. He got each year an old piper named Billy Clinton and held a kind of festival called a "Groggery" for the pupils and some of the neighbours. There were some money made up for the Master in this way to make up for his bad pay.
