  1. Long ago the Protestants were very numerious. They had a Free Mason Lodge, a Presbyterian Church and one of the finest Protestant Churches in the County of Longford. The Catholic Church is about 200 years old and at this time the Parish Priest was Father McGuire a very powerful and holy man. The Free Masons had arranged a meeting to destroy the Catholic Church at that time. Some of the Catholic neighbours went to guard the Church with all kinds of weapons and the Parish Priest said he was going to bed and for the people to go home that the church would not be destroyed. It was a beautiful night in Summer and the Free Masons all met in a wood in Mostown and a thick fog surrounded the wood until twelve o'clock on the next day. The Catholic Church was never destroyed. The Free Mason Lodge is now sold and converted into a nice shop.
