  1. There is an old tradition attached to the Cotoneaster Tree that when the berry and blossom appears at the same time it is the sign of a very severe winter.
    I had practical experience of it this year as I saw the tree myself.
    It is about 45 years ago since the same thing happened and Lough Ennel was frozen over. 18 boys walked from one side of the lake to the other when it was nine weeks frozen. They are all dead now but myself, 30 cattle also walked across Carrick Bay
