  1. A man named Patrick Connor was found murdered on the road at Carrick. He was found by a detatchment of Huzzars on their way to Mullingar. There was 24 arrested for the murder but the culprit never was found.
This happened about 70 years ago.
The soldiers ran here and there arresting everyone they met. One old man named James Fahy and his wife were churning at a neighbour's house and when arrested being in such a state of excitement he exclaimed, "Dont touch me, I was churning my wife at Maurice Quinns."
The ruins of Connors house is still to be seen on the side of the public road near Carrick.
