- In the district of Clonmellon the home-industry of making baskets is still carried on. These are later sold in the local shops and to the neighbouring people. This is how the sally baskets are made.
First, thin long sallies are cut and then hung in the chimney for a week or so to season.
Afterwards the people start to make the baskets. Four sallies are got and bent on each side so that they would be flat on the bottom.
Next the shape is got which is made of wood cut in the shape of a basket.
Then sallies are woven around the shape.
This is continued in that way until the basket is made.
Then the shape is taken out and a basket is made.- Bailitheoir
