    up the ground and harrow it. Then we drill it with the plough. We run the plough down the centre of the field and turn up the clay. Then we go the other side and turn more clay up against that. That is how drills are made. Then you spread the manure in the furrows and drop potatoes about six inches apart on the manure in the furrows. Before the potatoes are sown the big ones are cut into a few pieces leaving in each an eye. Each piece is called a scalp. Then my father closes the drills with a plough.
