- In former times people began to wear boots at the age of sixteen. Children nowadays go bare-footed in the Summer only. The water which is used to for washing the feet is thrown out after use. The boots are repaired locally. There are no shoemakers in the district. Clogs were worn in days gone by but they are not worn nowadays. Leather was never made in this district. The foot coverings were of leather.
