  1. There are potatoes grown in our garden. There is about a half an acre under potatoes every year. My father prepares the ground. The names of the potatoes he sows are Kerrs-pinks and Up-to-dates. The ground is not manured in anyway before it is dug. They are sowed in drills. First the ground is dug and the lumps of clay broken. Then the drills are opened and manure is put in between them. Then the seed is cut into scalps. Then they are dropped between the drills a foot from each other. When the potatoes are dropped the drills are closed in. When the potatoes begin
