- The wild duck, wild goose, cuckoo, corncrake, swallow, and the swift migrate. The wild duck and wild goose come to us in October and hatch out their young beside the bank of a lake. They lay eight eggs and when the summer comes they go away.The corncrake comes at the end of April and stays in meadows and in grassy fields. She lays four or five in a nest in the field. When the young ones come out they are often killed by mowing machines. They leave the country in October.The swallow comes in the middle of April.
