- This story was told to me by Mr Michael Tevlin of Newrath. Once upon a time there was a herd living in Horst named John Fitzpatrick. He dreamt three nights in succession of a treasure that was hidden in a field called the “mash” in the town land of Newrath. He also dreamt that the key of it was hidden in Staholmog grave-yard. He went to the graveyard the following night and he found a round stone with nine holes pierced in it. This stone he believed was the key of the treasure. He dreamt again that night that there was as much treasure hidden as six horses in Kilbeg would be able to draw. He also dreamt that there would have to be a life lost before the treasure could be recovered. But without any fear of his life being lost he started to go for the treasure. He wanted to bring his son with him but his mother would not let him go so the treasure remains there still.
The key then passed into the possession of Mr Tevlin who had it for years. But a friend of his named John Walsh of Horgan, brought it to America, where it remains still.
