   of the Big Wind in '39 and one little boy lost his life. He'd be an uncle of Mr Pat Hopkins, John St., Kells.
   On the west side of Church St., Kells there was a row of thatched houses which also went on fire the same night. They were replaced by the present houses. Many houses through the country were destroyed by fire the same night.
   In 1915 there was a great rainstorm. It rained for 24 hours. Lands were flooded. Valuable houses and other stock were lost. Horses were very valuable that time it being war time. The horses were swept along until they reached Carlanstown bridge, near Kells and there they blocked up the eye of the bridge.
   About the year 1879 there was heavy snow which thickened up the water. Then came great frost so that the rivers were frozen. The ice was so thick that it was possible to drive a coach and four from Draghed to Virginia lake on the ice.
   One time there was a fall of snow. The year is not remembered. It fell at Christmas and drifts were to be seen up to the 17th March.
