    Situated in the townland of Ballinaskea, in this parish of Enfield, is a natural hill called by the old people Knucnaloo.

    by a family called Keogh, on Mr Kennedy's land. There is an old oak tree in this field. Tradition has it that numbers of people were hanged here on this tree by English Soldiery and buried in the large mound beside the tree. From time to time human remains of bones and skulls have been dug up in this field.
    In this townland of "Baconstown" or Baile Aerac at the back of this school is a large modern house, unoccupied at present. An old boreen leads into it from the main road. Round about this house are the remains of a large village known as Baile Aerac or Ball Aerach the airy place. The poor villagers were wiped out in the famine days or evicted.
    In the same townland at the back of Kane's Cottage is a large boggy area divided up into small fields. One of these is known as the Crickeen. Here large quantities of bones and remains of guns have been found from time to time. The iron supports that were then used to support the weapon in those days, have been found. Near the same field and in the same boggy area, a field is known as the Rackeen. Here also numerous skulls and bones have been found indicating that a battle must
