    Though long and wearisome may be their stay.
    Some day will come when purged from every stain
    To the Great God of love they'll speed their way.
    Perhaps we careless think their lives were good,
    Their death so holy, they in Heaven rest.
    But oh, how pure the soul must be that would
    Go straight from earth to dwell among the blest.
    God's good you say. His mercies overflow,
    But ever keep in mind that stern decree
    "Nothing defiled can enter." Who can know
    That e'en the best from every fault is free.
    These poor souls buried in that fierce white flame.
    That slowly burns the sears of sin away
    The greatest earthy pain is but a name
