Before O'Brien's Bridge was built that is the bridge crossing the Inagh River near its mouth there was a ford which the people used to cross when going to Liscannor from Lahinch. One Summer day 3 priests who were on holiday in Lahinch walking across the ford on their way to Liscannor. The leading priest stumbled into the river, and the other 2 went to his aid. All were drowned. Their bodies were swept off by the current and picked up on the beach near Liscannor. The people of the place placed 2 large flags on the river in memory of the sad occurrence.
