  2. Lime Burning

    There was lime kiln in every farm about sixty years ago. Where lime was burned. The farmers used to quarry the stones which were close to the kiln. The culm was carried a considerable distance generally from Co, Kilkenny quarries.
    A layer of turf was then placed at the bottom of the kiln and a layer of culm on top of the turf and then a layer of stones on top of the culm. Then every other layer of culm with every other layer of stones to the top, The turf was then lighted and it set the whole
