- These are some old customs that my father told me
A long time ago the old people lit Bon-fires in gaps on the farm and made the cows jump over them. They also lit Bon-fires on village greens and public places in honour of St. John. St. Johns day is the twenty-fourth of June. It was a custom to have a Patern in Kilcash on the twenty-ninth of June a long time ago. People went out Clonmel with tents selling cakes and sweets and other things. There was also dancing and drinking and every kind of amusements. There was an old woman who went there three times a week with a tent. She got up every morning watching the daylight to go to the patern. She walked from Clonmel to the patern in Kilcash twice a week. She was very old and blind and all the people were stealing the things she had to sell.- Bailitheoir
