Tom Mulholland. Paddy Brien lived in the house in which I live at present, with his two sisters who were Jude and Kate. He was a relative of the present John Brien who has a forge in the same townland.
Johnny Maher was from Shanaclune and lived with his brother who was nicknamed "Crooked Nose". He was a relative of the present Harry Maher of the same townland. Tom Mulholland was from Knockroe and lived opposite to where Tom Cummins is living now.
The roof on the forge was slated with two windows which are now built up, and an open door. There is only a big stone trough in the forge now. This was used by the smiths to cool shoes before they were nailed to the horse's hoods. There are a few open recesses in the walls in it. Shoes used to be kept in these.
The implements which were used by the smiths were sledges, chisels, hammers, punches, hoof, knives, nails, squares, rasps, bellows and anvils.
