  1. Festival Customs.
On St. Stephen's day, boys and grown-ups gather together. They go from house to house gathering money. They carry decorated bushes; and they sing the wren-song. The wording of the song is "The wren, the wren, the king of all birds, On St Stephen's Day he was caught in the furze."
Although she being little her family is great, Stand up, my young lady, and give us a treat. From bush to bush, from tree to tree, In Garryowen, I broke my knee." On Palm-Sunday people wear palm on their coats. On St. Patrick's Day they wear the shamrock. It is said that when the palm and shamrock will be worn on the same day, which will be in 1940, Ireland will be united.
On St. Brigit's Eve, a girdle of rushes is made. The girdle is called St. Brigit's Girdle. The people do not work on St. Patrick's Day. Children wear harps or medals. On St. Lawrence's Day the people go to Inch St Lawrence Church, and do "rounds."
