“In my young days the people ate only three meals a day i.e breakfast, dinner, and supper.”
In my young days the people ate only three meals a day i.e. breakfast, dinner, and supper. Breakfast was usually about 7 o'clock, dinner at 1 o'clock and supper at a 8 o'clock. People got up at 4 o'clock in the summer and often had a days work done in the few hours before breakfast. Breakfast was composed of potatoes and milk and stirabout. Skim-milk or buttermilk was the milk they used. Dinner was much the same as the breakfast. For supper they often had cold potatoes roasted, called roasters, cabbage and sometimes a little meat. Others had Indian meal stirabout and skim. All the potatoes were put out on the table in a heap. About 90 years ago Dr. Bourke of Ballinvreena, Kilfinane, (Parish of Knocklong) Co.
