   On Easter Sunday morning 1667 [sic, should be 1867] Peter O Neill Crowley was shot dead whilst fighting for his country's freedom in Kilclooney Wood. Peter O Neill Crowley was on the run some months before he was shot. He was hiding on the Galtees and he became impatient at last and came out and went to headquarters in East Limerick.

   O Neill Crowley spent some days in hiding in the "Wood House" in Ballinacourty, - About one mile west of Glenroe N. School Information was given of his where-a-bouts and Captain Townsend and his yoes [yeomen] searched the house, but Crowley had left a few hours before. He crossed the farm now owned by Tom Wallis, jumped across the Molanna River into Nagle's field in Garryarthur and went by Nagle's house, (now owned by John Sweeney) to the Garryarthur Road, up Lonergan's glen which was then wooded and across Darragh Hill to Hanley's house in Kilclooney. He took his meals at Hanleys, but slept in an - unoccupied house owned by Dwane.
   The soldiers who searched the "Wood House" for Crowley + his comrades tracked them to the river and in jumping across the river they lost several loaves of bread, which they had evidently taken for the journey.
