  1. Breaking the News.
A farmer's son went to a college in Dublin to get a good education. After he had been there some time he was surprised one morning to see the maid leading into his room an old man servant from his father's house.
"Why, what is the matter?", asked the boy.
"The cat is dead", replied the old man.
"The cat is dead. What did the poor animal die of?".
"Indigestion, through having eaten too much meat".
"Too much meat, and where did all the meat come from?".
    "From your poor horses".
"The horses, are they dead also?".
"Yes, the poor animals died from exhaustion through having to carry too much water to quench the fire at the house".
    "The fire at the house".
"Yes, it caught fire through the maid forgetting to quench the candles at your father's funeral".
"What, is my father dead?. Why did you not tell me that at first?".
"Well, I was told to break the news to you as gently as possible and I did my best".
