    It is said that Shoan Byrnes who had his residence in Duagh was one of the strongest men ever in Ireland. One day himself and his sister Peggy went to Listowel to sell a load of oats. They sold the oats and were on their way home when they came to a wood called Byrnes's wood which was very near the road. Then four men came out of the wood to rob him. One of them caught the horse and the other three pulled Shoan off the cart but when he was coming off he caught the side lace broke it and after a tough struggle succeeded in striking one of the
