- Shrove Tuesday
Many marriages take place on Shrove Tuesday because it is the last day for getting married until Lent is ended. Pancakes are made on that day so as to have a feed of eggs before the forty long days of fasting. There is a custom in this district called Sceilg. All the boys and some men go around the surrounding districts with long ropes. Every bachelor they meet they tie him with the ropes. When they have many caught they tie them all to trees, in the town they tie them to lamp-posts.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
