    simple cure for Rhumatism. Old people were very fond of gathering nettles, chopping them fine, and then mixing them with Indian meal, raw or cooked for chickens or young turkeys.
    "Loster-one" is found plentifully in fields and meadows. Farmers long ago used send out their maid-servants with a sack-bag, and on old blade of a knife in hand to pick "Loster-one" in the early meadows along with earthen fence until the sack was full. It was then emptied, chopped fine, and mixed with gruel - which was indian meal boiled over the fire - and served out to pigs. It was considered a very valuable as well as a cheap way for feeding the hungry animals. Cabbage was also treated in the same way. Hay used be boiled in big pots, and the haywater given to horses or mixed with skim milk for calves.

  2. The Potato Crop
    Potatoes are largely grown int his district, but not for sale. Farmers grow just as many of them, as they will lead for themselves, and as will feed the animals on the farm, chiefly pigs, Potatoes boiled, and mixed with meal, form a valuable fattening food for these animals.
