On New Year's night people went around from house to house throwing crumbs at the doors and windows to show that no one was hungry. On Shrove Tuesday night the people made pan-cakes and boys tarred men on the walls and chimneys. On St Celestine's night it was the custom to decorate the house with yellow flowers in honour of the saint.The people in my townland had many superstitions such as, not to leave the cows out on May night and not to give money away on Monday, not to throw out on Monday.
