  1. About a hundred years ago there was a school in a ruined castle near Mourne Abbey. Unlike most other schools in the district it was a girl who taught there. Her name is not known but, the local peasantry are fairly strong in the belief that she was a stranger, giving their grand-fathers and ancestors (as far back as can be traced to-day) as authors for this and other beliefs. She had about thirty scholars attending the school. At the coming of the National Schools she gave up teaching.
