- The townland of Doon derives its name from the large fort that is built there. "John Ring's Fort" as it is known, is said to be the "King of Forts" as it is surrounded by five forts and connected with them by an under-ground passage.The forts are supposed to have been built by the Danes to protect themselves from any invasion. When they were built first they were from thirty to forty feet high, but they are not so high to-day.It is said in past years some very sweet music was often heard there. Often the galloping of horses could be heard there about mid-night.There was a nurse by the name of Nell Connors who lived in Lamanagh. A man out of the fort came to her one night and took her to the fort. A baby was born there, and she got oilment to rub(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
